Born in Morelia, a Mexican city renowned for its culture and craft traditions, Antonio is the last child of a family of 15 and discovered his love for fashion at the age of 8.
Naturally attracted to studies in design, in 1994 Antonio works with the Mexican Arts and Crafts Centre and learns ancestral techniques and know-how in braiding, weaving, embroidery and openwork: characteristic techniques that can be still be found in his creations.
After a career as head stylist for the Mexican television channel Televisa S.A, in 2001 Antonio lets his curiosity take him to Paris to discover the roots of Haute Couture and study at the Chardon Savard design school.
In 2004 Antonio moved to Montreal (Canada) and he starts is career as fashion designer.
Every Antonio Ortega Couture design starts with a detailed hand drawn sketch by Antonio himself. The sketch will then go through various stages of design until the overall aesthetic has warranted the Antonio Ortega mark.
“Couture is about what you don’t see as well as what you do,” he says.
